Frequently Asked Questions

Why is your liquid sanitizer a 70% ethanol content?
A 70% ethanol content  is superior to a stronger solution. This is because pure alcohol coagulates protein upon contact. If pure alcohol is poured over a single celled organism, the alcohol will go through the cell wall of the organism in all directions, coagulating the protein just inside the cell wall. The ring of the coagulated protein would then stop the alcohol from penetrating deeper into the cell, and no more coagulation would take place. At this time the cell would become inactive but not dead. Under more favourable conditions the cell would then begin to function. Conversely if 70% percent of alcohol is poured to a single celled organism, the diluted alcohol also coagulates the protein, but at a slower rate. This allows the solution to penetrate all the way through the cell before coagulation can block it. Using this method the entire cell is coagulated and the organism dies.

Why is your gel an 80% ethanol content?
Any gel  between 60-90% is effective in combating covid 19. We believe in positioning ourselves in the market with a high quality product which is why we have opted for a stronger solution. As a gel people tend to spend more time rubbing this into their hands compared to sanitizing surfaces.

Why do your sanitizers contain Glycerol?
Glycerol acts like a sponge and draws more moisture to itself. It also helps slow down the evaporation of water from the skin, which can help keep skin moist and hydrated in the middle of winter. Several scientific studies provide evidence that glycerol effectively moisturizes and hydrates skin.

How long does it take for an order to arrive?
At Bedford Medical Disposables we have a commitment to delivering any order within 8 working days. If any order is going to be longer we will inform you before you place it. We understand many of our clients are distributors and need a reliable source of supplies in a reasonable time period.

What is your preferred transportation method?
Most of our clients prefer to receive sanitizers in the form of IBC containers as this is the cheapest and easiest way of delivering sanitizers. We do though offer alternative ways of delivering sanitizers. Bedford Medical Disposables can bottle the product for you in a range of different sizes. However the minimum order size is 1000 litres and the lead time for delivery in smaller containers is longer. Anyone interested in receiving a product already packed for distribution should consult with their account manager to discuss the various range of options.

Do you offer sanitizers directly to the retail market?
Currently we only provide goods to the wholesale market. We expect this to change soon as we have set-up a brand to deal with the retail market. This will be marketed as SDS LAB and we expect this to be rolled out at the back end of this year.
Do you offer bespoke solutions?
Yes. for larger clients we are able to design specific solutions to meet their requirements. Typically this might be a request for a certain colour or fragrance. An order will take slightly longer for the first order as we would need to register the product. Though afterwards we will be able to reduce the lead time to eight working days.

Do we have to pay Value Added Tax?
Yes. Unlike some other forms of Personal Protective Equipment, sanitizers are not currently exempt from VAT. For people who are exporting the product they can reclaim the VAT back.

How do I make payment?
Before making payment you need to speak with your Account Manager who will take your order and issue you with an invoice. Payment instructions and our VAT number will be included as part of the invoice. Payments can be made online to Bedford Capital Ltd.

Why do you offer a non alcohol option?
Many clients have a need for a non alcohol based option. This could be due to working in a hazardous and highly flammable environment. Alternatively it may be due to religious beliefs. Our non alcohol sanitizer is effective at killing 99.999% of germs and is effective at fighting Covid 19.
